The Prosperity Roadblock

LENT – A SEASON OF SEEKING

The Prosperity Roadblock

Miraculously, Lazarus is now fully alive and well, and reclining at the dinner table.  And Mary, overcome with gratefulness, takes a pint of pure nard and pours it on Jesus’ feet, wiping his feet with her hair.  Mary’s action was an act of love, a gift.  But not just any gift, rather a lavish gift given freely and without reservation.  Mary demonstrated her love by freely giving of her  financial resources without carying about her reputation or the criticism she would receive from such a gift.  But how does stewardship merge with wisdom when we reflect on both Mary’s actions and the boisterous Palm Sunday crowds?

LENT – A SEASON OF SEEKING

The Death Roadblock

Of all the experiences a human being goes through, placing the body of someone you love into the ground must be just about the most difficult.  This is precisely the predicament that two of Jesus’ closest friends faced when their brother fell ill.  How would he respond in their moment of need?  How does He respond in ours?

John 11:1-37

The Blindness Roadblock

LENT – A SEASON OF SEEKING

The Blindness Roadblock

The Offensive Roadblock

For all of our efforts to present Jesus as worthy of being followed, sometimes it seems like he was actually trying to turn people away – and it worked.  So what do we do when we discover that the good news isn’t what we thought it would be?  How do we keep moving forward when we’re offended by what Jesus had to say?
