Playing Favourites

In the world of ice cream flavours, we all have our favourites!  In the world of relationships, playing favourites is not a good thing.  All of this week’s lectionary readings remind us that, in contrast to most cultures’ tendency to cater to the privileged and marginalize the disadvantaged, God longs for people who will counter that trend.  Extending mercy, pursuing justice, and loving redemptively are among God’s favourite things for us to do.  Let’s play God’s favourites.

Readings: Proverbs 22:1-2, 8-9, 22-23; Isaiah 35:4-7a; James 2:1-17; Mark 7:24-37
