The events that launched Jesus’ public life are so far outside of our modern experience that it can be easy to dismiss what we read. Did people seriously drop everything to follow this wandering Rabbi named Jesus? If so, why? And are we willing to do the same?

This Is My Beloved Son

After skipping entirely over the childhood and early adult years of Jesus’ life, John’s gospel picks up at the scene of Jesus’ baptism. The setting is the Jordan River, where John the Baptist reveals Jesus as the Son of God. What does John mean when he says that Jesus “takes away the sin of the world”?
